Percutaneous Electrolysis in Mallorca

What is Ultrasound-Guided Percutaneous Electrolysis (EPI®) treatment?

It consists of inserting an acupuncture needle into the affected tissue, guided by real-time ultrasound imaging, with the aim of positioning ourselves precisely at the specific site of the injury.

Once we are positioned exactly where we want to be, a galvanic (direct) current is passed through the needle, generating an electrolysis reaction, which triggers regenerative processes in the target tissue.

What pathologies can be treated with EPI®?

How is Percutaneous Electrolysis applied in Palma?

Percutaneous Electrolysis is applied in Palma through specialized clinics such as IMAR, where advanced technology is combined with a rigorous medical approach. The treatment consists of inserting an acupuncture needle directly into the injured tissue, guided by ultrasound, and applying a controlled galvanic current that causes a local inflammatory response. This reaction stimulates the regeneration of the damaged tissue, accelerates recovery, and reduces pain. It is a minimally invasive, safe, and effective technique, especially indicated for chronic tendinopathies and musculoskeletal injuries resistant to other treatments.

What benefits does the EPI® technique offer to patients?

The EPI® technique (Intratissue Percutaneous Electrolysis) offers numerous benefits to patients with chronic musculoskeletal injuries. Among the most prominent are the acceleration of injured tissue regeneration, localized and effective pain reduction, and a notable improvement in the functionality of the treated area. Furthermore, by acting directly on the affected structure using an ultrasound-guided needle, the treatment is precise and minimizes damage to surrounding tissues.

What effects does EPI® have on the injured tissue?

Does it have side effects or contraindications?

The EPI® technique (Intratissue Percutaneous Electrolysis) is safe when applied by a qualified professional, but like any invasive treatment, it can have some mild side effects and contraindications. It is common for mild discomfort or local inflammation to appear after the session, which usually subsides within a few hours. In some cases, a small hematoma or a feeling of stiffness may also occur. It is contraindicated for individuals with coagulation disorders, active infections in the area to be treated, pacemakers, pregnancy, or hypersensitivity to electrical current.
